Let’s get honest… Does good quality skin care really matter?? Will it really make a difference if you are using over the counter products or some fancy serum, cream, lotion or potion that are hard to find? A lot of people ask me what the difference is between medical grade skincare products and products from a department store or drugstore. So let’s discuss it now. Let me educate you. Then you can make your own decisions.
Most of us (myself included) have been lured by the popular “over-the-counter” brands, because of their marketing, beautiful boxes, and of course, the price! But what many people don’t know is that while they may have some benefits, over the counter products have limitations in fixing real skin issues.
For starters, medical grade skincare products have higher concentrations of active ingredients than over-the-counter products do. So if you want to lighten dark spots, or treat your break-outs so you can get faster results, its likely best to invest in the products that will work better.
Secondly, in order to get real results from a skincare product, treatment needs to be toward deeper layers of the skin. Over-the-counter products can only work on the epidermis (the outer layer of skin) where the skin cells are starting to shed. Medical grade skincare products can actually penetrate into deeper layers of the skin. These products work all the way down to the dermis (middle layer of skin) where the elastin and collagen are contained, as well as the basal (bottom layer of skin) where new cells are produced. So for great anti-aging benefits, this is a MUST.
Thirdly, many medical grade products have been scientifically published in medical journals to show real and significant improvements in the skin. We all know it’s so hard to tell the truth behind the marketing in many products, but with independent studies and published results showing the product works, it gives more validity that what you are purchasing might actually make a difference !
Lastly, our skin is regenerating new cells all the time. Even though we might not see results immediately, with the right skin care regimen that works, our skin will become healthier over time.
Of course, it’s important that the products we use on our skin are helping us and not damaging our skin. That is why you must always consult with a Dr. on the best regimen for your skin concerns.
